Sauna & Vihta – Traditional Finnish Sauna Experience at the Crater Lake Lappajärvi

Sauna rituals are a cherished part of Finnish heritage, and the fragrant whisk (vihta) has always been one of the highlights of sauna bathing. In the whisking sauna, you’ll not only connect with the roots of Finnish culture but also delve into the depths of your own mind. Welcome to enjoy an authentic Finnish sauna experience for all the senses!

Surrender to the gentle heat, the rhythm of the whisking, the soothing steam, and the sounds and scents of the sauna. Afterward, take a refreshing dip in the incredibly soft and healing waters of Lappajärvi – a true ”piece of heaven”.

The whisking ritual lasts about 45 minutes, with a couple of breaks in between, allowing you to cool down in between. The whisks are made from different types of trees, such as birch, alder, maple, willow, spruce, juniper, or pine, each with its own unique healing aromatic properties: some open up the airways, others cleanse, and some even relieve pain.

The sauna is kept at a mild temperature. The steam (löyly) is created with the energetically charged water of the Crater Lake Lappajärvi, and the warmth is directed towards the bathers using the whisks. The whisks are used to gently tap and massage the body. Lappajärvi’s unique kärnäite stones (impactite), which you can hold in your hands or press against the soles of your feet, provide a deeply grounding effect.

Your sauna journey will be guided by Ritva Timonen, a traditional sauna expert with extensive experience in tourism and healt care.

Please note: The price is for Vihta Treamtment only, sauna is charged separately by the Aquarius resort. The atmospheric lakeside sauna at Aquarius Resort offers excellent facilities. The sauna comfortably accommodates up to 15 bathers. This treatment can however be arranged at any sauna location spacious enough for the group in question.
