Step onto the frozen Arctic Sea under the guidance of our professional local guide, dressed in warm thermal clothing and always close to a heated tent on the ice. Savor delicious Finnish delicacies cooked over an open fire and see how a traditional ice fishing hole is made – with the chance to try it yourself! This is an enjoyable and easy way to experience the Arctic Sea at its best, just minutes from the vibrant and cultural city of Oulu. We begin our experience at the Nallikari Experience Center, located right by the frozen sea. In the warmth of the indoor space, you will dress in thermal clothing. Then, together with your guide, you will take a short walk onto the frozen sea towards a heated tent waiting in the middle of the winter landscape. Your guide will light a campfire and prepare traditional Finnish treats: sausages grilled over an open fire with side dishes, warm sandwiches, and freshly brewed pot of coffee – traditional Finnish coffee made over the fire – along with other hot drinks. While you enjoy the flavors, your guide will share stories about the frozen sea and winter life. You will also see how a traditional Finnish ice auger is used to make a small hole in the thick ice – and if you wish, you can try it yourself under the safe guidance of your host. If the cold catches you, the heated tent offers a cozy place to warm up and admire the winter scenery from inside. This experience is suitable for all ages and requires no physical fitness.
