Merihelmi Aurora Sea Resort is the newest member to join the Visit Arctic Coast value network, bringing a distinctive new coastal resort to the Arctic Coast of Finland.
Located between Tornio-Haparanda and Liminka, Merihelmi sits within easy reach of both Kemi-Tornio (KEM) and Oulu (OUL) airports. For many locals and domestic travellers, the location is already familiar as Merihelmi – a much-loved camping site, restaurant and roadside stop surrounded by nature trails and beautiful sea views.
Now, a new chapter is taking shape.
The existing restaurant and reception building are being renewed, while 15 villas and a seaside sauna are being added to the resort. The result will be a small-scale coastal retreat where accommodation, nature and the sea come together in a setting that has long been part of the local landscape. This premium resort is opening in December 2026 and we are pleased to be a part of their story from the very beginning.

Activities at Merihelmi Aurora Sea Resort are developed together with local partners, with a strong focus on local character and small groups. This creates opportunities to experience the coastal environment in a more personal way, while keeping the connection to the surrounding area at the heart of the offering.
As a new Valued Partner, Merihelmi Aurora Sea Resort joins a growing network of destinations and resorts working together to develop the Arctic Coast of Finland as a distinctive, internationally relevant travel region.
“We are very pleased to welcome Merihelmi Aurora Sea Resort to the Visit Arctic Coast value network. Merihelmi brings something valuable to our coast: a familiar local place with a strong connection to the sea, now developing into a new kind of coastal resort. Its location also strengthens the accommodation and experience offering between Oulu and Tornio-Haparanda,” says Jaana Sirkiä, Marketing Director of Visit Arctic Coast.
With Merihelmi Aurora Sea Resort, the Visit Arctic Coast network continues to grow along the coastline – bringing together places with their own character, while building a shared direction for the Arctic Coast of Finland.
